Year List

Some of the first birds banded in the new year at the Zuma Canyon banding station. Since I'm keeping a year list to see how many species I can find in one year these are also some of the first birds on my list, pictured above:

A Bird in the Hand

I got to hang with the Bird Banders a couple weeks ago. Walt Sakai and his crew of dedicated volunteers have been banding birds in Lower Zuma Canyon for years now. Banding the birds gives us inofmration on population dynamics, dispersment, sex, and migration.

Zuma Canyon Restoration

We are restoring native California Coastal Sage Scrub. Only about 35% of the original Coastal Sage habitat is left across the state.
