US Road Trip Shot on Ilford PanF and HP5

After I moved from the states to South America I went back at some point to grab some old film gear. Among some gadgets and gear I found a few rolls of film. One of them was a roll of Ilford PanF 50, one of my favorite films. It had been sitting in storage and was way past its expiration date. I took it with us back to the states to shoot some scenes along our trip. And I also stopped by the legendary B&H to pick up some more film for the used Nikon F100 I had just bought.

These images were shot on our trip from Rochester New York towards Dallas Texas.

Point Lobos

A Central Coast trip is looming in the near future as Autumn is more often than not the optimal time to head North of Point Conception.

Image:

Pt. Lobos State Park, I remember the day being super clear, the water an azure turquoise color, and everything was glowing in hyper color. All I had was B&W film. I think it was Fall 04?

Trent Parke's Australia

Just watched a video on Australian photographer Trent Parke where he talks about his work and new book Minutes to Midnight. Go to the Magnum website and watch the video, it's pretty rad. Trent shoots high contrast grainy images of a mysterious Oz that we don't see in the surf mags. His work is very inspiring and his images seem to be created with some super camera, but I believe it's just Ilford film and a solid Leica M body. So here are some Trent Parkesque images from my trip out to Southwest Australia in May of '07 with surfer/shaper Glen Kennedy.

I am the Darkness

"I am all the forces and objects with which I come in contact.
I am the wind, the trees, and the birds, and the darkness".

HOLGA BAJA

Baja is red dirt roads that lead to new discoveries, pot holes the size of semis, and cold tecates.
White bones bleached by the desert sun and salt air.
Campfire stories and nuevo amigos.
Sketchy waves in fishy places.
Beyond the beach lay the volcanic remnants of our chaotic creation.
Brisk offshore mornings and white hot afternoons.
Howling winds and lonesome coyotes stalk the sparse shore.
Migrating gray whales and wandering gringos.
Fish taco heaven and hell-like Holga Landscapes.

Knapp Ditch

Knapp Ditch is wild, tucked back into the Eastern ridge of the Santa Monica Mountains and left alone for many a years it has taken on an environment all its own. Creeping around its borders are mountain lions, bobcats, snakes, tarantulas, tarantula wasps, scorpions, bats, owls, hawks, big-clean cross bred with german shepard kyotes, and the wildest creatures of them all; the skateboarders. Skaters who come to feel the concrete and earth on their skin, as they slither down a dirty, tweaked, cracked, concrete wave.

Pool Snakes

Pool skaters are like snakes; they quietly slip under your fences and into your backyards, shralping empty swimming pools and leaving their marks like a snake in the sand, and then they're gone, back down below to the underworld they belong to.
